The following organizations were grantees of the Fall 2001 cycle.

FAMILY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Somerville, MA - $1,200

Women's Supported Housing and Empowerment program works with

women and children who are homeless due to poverty and domestic

violence. Funds will be used to support the Child/Family advocate

position at WSHE.

ALEXANDER BELLER

New York, New York - $350

Choreographer Alexander Beller will present "It‚s Not You, It‚s Me," an

evening of dance using women with diverse body types, and of all ages

and races. The project incorporates community involvement including

residences at schools and movement/text workshops about body issues

for young women.

ASOCIACIÓN TEPEYAC DE NEW YORK

New York, New York - $1,000

As part of its mission to promote the human and civil rights of Hispanic

immigrants in New York, Asociación Tepeyac is helping families affected

by the World Trade Center attack.

ECONOMIC RESOURCE COUNCIL

Palm Beach, Florida - $1,000

The Women‚s Life Planning Institute is a program specifically for older

women, primarily women of color, who are at risk for poverty because

they do not have financial working knowledge. The volunteer program

helps women become financially literate.

FLORIDA A & M UNIVERSITY

Tallahassee, Florida - $600

Funding will support self-esteem and cultural enrichment workshops for

African American girls in grades 7-9.

"INSIDE OUT: STORIES OF BULIMIA" - FILM ARTS FOUNDATION

San Francisco, CA - $500

Now in post-production, the film by San Franciscan Michelle Blair tells

the story of 5 people struggling with the emotional and physical trauma

of their secret disease.

LA LESBIAN AT LA PEÑA

Berkeley, California - $700

The grant will help to support this ongoing film and performance series.

MIDWEST BRAIN INJURY CLUBHOUSE

Park Ridge, Illinois - $550

This community center serves adults that have suffered some type of

brain injury. Funding will be used to provide education seminars on

dating and sexuality issues.

PLEIADES THEATRE COMPANY

Louisville, Kentucky - $500

Pleiades produces theatre about women, by women, for everyone and

provides opportunities for women and girls in theatre to practice their

craft for compensation. The grant will go toward their program to train

young women from local schools in technical theatre and design.

PUBLIC POLICY AND EDUCATION FUND

New York, NY - $750

The Women‚s Rights at Work is a sexual harassment and sex

discrimination outreach and education project. They provide counseling,

education, information and referrals for women struggling with the

devastating impacts of workplace sexual harassment.

RED HEN PRODUCTIONS

Cleveland, Ohio - $500

The theatre is dedicated to producing plays with feminist ideals especial-ly

those that show that feminists do have a sense of humor.

THE QUEEN‚S COMPANY

Brooklyn, New York - $500

This all-female, multi-racial, classical theatre company is dedicated to

telling great stories by classical and contemporary playwrights.

The grant will go towards their Spring 2002 production of Aphra Behn‚s

The Lucky Chance in repertory with a new play.

SHE WANTS TO TALK TO YOU - FILM ARTS FOUNDATION

San Francisco, CA - $750

Funding will support distribution of this film featuring three 13-year old

Nepali girls who share their ideas on being girls in Nepal, marriage,

friendship, love, loneliness, their dreams and God. The film continues

with three Nepali women living in the U.S. reflecting on their own

struggle, exile and quest for liberation.

SISTER OUTSIDER

Brooklyn, New York - $1000

Part of the Young Women‚s Work Project, this group is run by women of

color between the ages of 14 and 22 and works to reduce recidivism for

incarcerated girls.

THE STOCKYARDS THEATRE PROJECT

Chicago, Illinois - $500

Stockyards is dedicated exclusively to producing feminist theatre that

makes women theatre artists a viable force. The grant will go towards

the Spring 2002 production of The Rape of Nanking…According to

Winnie by Margaret G. Waterstreet.

SUGARLAND - FILM ARTS FOUNDATION

San Francisco, California - $1,000

This documentary film is about the struggle of 90-year old Margaret

Carranza and her daughter Juanita have waged for nearly a decade to

get their family‚s land back. An official USDA investigation found that

Carranza had been the victim of discrimination by her local Federal Farm

Service Agency. Despite this finding, the Montana U.S. Attorney‚s office

evicted her from her farm and sold it off.

THE WOMEN‚S DESK

Oakland, CA - $750

A dynamic production, editorial and training unit within the National Radio

Project, Women‚s Desk will use their funding for training workshops for

low-income activists and journalists. Their goal is to provide affordable

and supportive training opportunities for women to learn to create media.

The Women‚s Desk provides training for women who are dedicated to

collaborating with women‚s groups and who are often themselves part of

social change organizations.

THE WOMEN‚S ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FUND (WEDF)

Washington, D.C. - $500

WEDF is an affiliated project of Women Empowered Against Violence

(WEAVE). WEDF is a new D.C. based volunteer directed investment and ser-vice

project dedicated to promoting battered women‚s economic security. The

project includes economic empowerment, economic

education and safety planning workshops, grants to match participants‚ savings,

and small loans to support women survivors in achieving their economic goals.

WOMEN‚S PROJECT, ASSOCIATION FOR UNION DEMOCRACY

Brooklyn, New York - $1,000

AUD is an advocate for women in trade unions. Their new initiative,

Operation Punch List, has been designed to bring together experts,

advocates and skilled blue-collar women to collectively implement

strategies for securing equal opportunity for women. The grant will

support publication of the coalition newsletter Punch List.

THE ELLEN DOUGHERTY ACTIVIST FUND GRANTEES:

SHE ROCKS! YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAM

Santa Cruz, CA - $500

Funding will be used for leadership development. The program will

provide education and critical thinking skills, and raise awareness around

health, violence prevention and human rights issues. Leadership and

organizing opportunities will enable young women to become peer

leaders and advocates for positive change.

WINGSPAN - $500

Two young LBT activists from the Youth Leadership Development

Program will attend Creating Change to learn about issues facing the

LGBT community and to learn how to organize for change.

FIRST OPTIONS FOR ELDERS

Protland, Oregon - $500

Lesbian community education project.
